Frame and Wheel is auctioning a 2006 Zipp 900 Clincher disc wheel on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The owner purchased the wheel second hand in 2009. The wheel was used for racing until 2011. It has been in storage since then. It has never been crashed. It was parted out from a time trial bike in 2013. The owner is selling it because it is no longer needed. The wheel features alloy clincher rim, ABLC (Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control) dimpled surface, Zipp bulge rim shape, 19 mm rim width, Zipp 182 disc hub, Salsa skewer, Shimano free hub body for 9 or 10 speed, track wheel adaptability, dual side valve opening, clincher wheel convenience and Zipp disc cool. Review of condition
The wheel is in good condition. It is clean and ready to ride. There are no dents in the alloy rim. The alloy rim is bonded firmly to the carbon wheel. The wheel is true and round. The hub spins freely. There is no play in the hub. The skewer is straight and complete. The valve opening is undamaged. The stickers are on securely. Frame and Wheel notes the following. There is a 7 mm x 7 mm puncture in one of the drive side panels from accidental contact with a nylon dog bone. There is a 2 mm x 10 mm scratch on one of the non drive side Zipp stickers. There are light notches on the free hub body from a cassette. The skewer ends show wear from a trainer. The braking surfaces of the rims show wear. There are imperfections in the finish of the ABLC panels on the non drive side of the wheel.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this Zipp 900 Clincher will make and excellent choice for the road cyclist or triathlete who seeks a functional and practical disc wheel for racing or for training. Although the wheel shows wear, it is nevertheless in good condition and ready to return to the road. The new owner will notice the benefits of a disc wheel and appreciate the convenience of the clincher rim, and may find that the wheel and the time trial bike that it is on gets more use as a result. An excellent opportunity to change the voice of a time trial bike and improve performance in the race against the clock.
