Frame and Wheel eBay Selling Services introduces custom boxes for carbon road frames

Frame and Wheel retained the services of Volk Packaging Corporation to originate a shipping box for carbon fiber frames. These double walled corrugated boxes are made from virgin pulp fibers (275# test) and feature an inner liner and a seat that supports the frame. They are large enough to accommodate a road frame that has a seat post of 62 cm, but small enough to meet the measurement requirements of the United States Postal Service. This means that frames can be shipped economically to international and domestic buyers using USPS Priority Mail services. They also meet Fed Ex and UPS domestic measurement requirements. Frame and Wheel is bringing to market a set of Specialized S-Works Barmac Wedge carbon integrated bar/stem handlebars on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The handlebars were purchased new at B+L Bikes in San Diego in 2008 and they were mounted on a road bike for about one year of racing and training. The handlebars were then removed and have been in storage for about two years. They have never been crashed and they have had only one previous owner, who is selling them because he no longer needs them. The bars feature a shallow drop, full carbon construction, ergonomic drops and tops and cable grooves that are compatible with Shimano, SRAM and Campagnoloa cable housing. The serial number on the bottom of the right drop reads DC747A0049 and the serial number on the inside of the right handlebar reads D7410070019A. Please note that the the wedge hardware needed to mount these bars is not included in this transaction. Review of condition

The bars are in good condition. They are clean and show only light signs of wear. There are no cracks, bulges or scratches in the finish of the carbon. Frame and Wheel notes the following: there are three 4 x 4 mm chips in the finish on the inside of the right hand drop from the brake/shifter clamp. There is one 5 x 5 mm chip on the inside of the left hand drop from the brake/shifter clamp. There is a 1 x 25 mm flaking in the finish on the leading edge of the right handle bar and a 2 x 10 mm flaking in the finish on the underside of the right handle bar perhaps from electrical tape used to hold the cables in place under the bar tape. Frame and Wheel carefully inspected these bars, but cannot guarantee that every imperfection has been spotted. 

Frame and Wheel conclusion

These are very nice handlebars and will suit the rider who wants to save some weight and add additional sleekness to the lines of their bike. This is a great opportunity to obtain one of the latest innovations in handlebar technology at a very reasonable valuation.

Frame and Wheel is bringing to market HED classic carbon aero bars with carbon s-bend extensions on the Frame and Wheel eBay store. The bars were purchased new at Peak Performance in Portland, Maine in 2006 and were mounted on a custom time trial bike. They were used on this bike for about three years and then removed when the frame was sent back to the manufacturer under warranty. The bars have been in storage for about two years. They have never been crashed and they have had only one previous owner. The owner is selling these bars because his existing time trial bicycle already has suitable aero bars and these bars are not being used. These bars feature integrated brake levers, carbon s-bend extensions, arm pad fore/aft positions, adjustable width for extension mounts, internal cable routing and a one piece carbon base bar. Review of Condition

The bars are in good condition and show only light signs of wear. They are clean and there are no cracks in the carbon s-bend extensions. The base bar is not bent. The brake levers operate correctly and are not bent. The velcro secures the the arm pads to the arm rests firmly. There is no corrosion in any of the bolts or bolt holes and none of the screws are stripped. The carbon base bar and the carbon arm rests are not cracked or damaged. Frame and Wheel notes the following: There is wear on the bar center from the handlebar clamp bolt. There is wear on the base bar from the extension bar mounts. The head of the screw on the right hand brake lever shows signs of wear. There is a light abrasion on the left side of the base bar from the bike being leaned up against the wall. Frame and Wheel carefully inspected these bars, but cannot guarantee that every imperfection has been spotted. 

Frame and Wheel conclusion

These bars will suit the rider who needs aero bars to build up a dedicated time trial bike or who seeks to change the position on their existing time trial bike to the “downhill” position afforded by the s-bend extension bars. Although the bars are a bit dated, they are in good condition and they have plenty of hours of riding left in them. They are sturdy and light and there is plenty of adjustability in the extensions and in the arm pads for obtaining the right position on the bike. This is a great opportunity to get great value on a very nice and practical set of aero bars.

Frame and Wheel is bringing a black 2010 Parlee Z5 XL Tall compact carbon frame set to market on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame set was purchased new by Josh Freeman of Freeman’s Bicycle Service in October 2009 when Mr. Freeman was an employee of Peak Performance, an authorized Parlee dealer located in Portland, Maine. The frameset has an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 fair weather training miles on it. It has never been crashed, it has had only one previous owner and it has been professionally maintained by Mr. Freeman. It was previously built-up with SRAM Force components and a SRAM Red BB30 bottom bracket. The components were removed and the frameset placed in storage at a bike store in October 2010. Mr. Freeman is selling the frame set because he has less time to ride it. The frame set features a BB 30 bottom bracket, carbon drop outs, a moveable carbon front derailleur hanger “belt”, carbon cable stops, a carbon seat collar, a titanium rear brake mount and bottom bracket shell, red lettering on the bottom of the down tube and a towering 22 cm head tube. Cabling is external and headset is integrated. The frame set as shown weighs 1.42 kg (3 pounds 2 ounces). The serial number on the bottom of the bottom bracket reads SN PCZ09J59T961. The serial number on the steer tube of the front fork reads: 0908 0462. The steer tube is uncut. There is no seat post included in this sale. Instruction manual not included. Review of Condition

The frame is in very good condition and shows only light signs of wear and tear. It is clean and there are no cracks, scratches or bubbles in the finish of the frame. There is no wear on the underside of the down tube, on the bottom of front fork crown, on the back of the seat tube or on the chain stays. The front and rear forks are in alignment with the the centerline of the frame and the rear derailleur hanger is straight. There is no corrosion in the water bottle bolt holes, the seat post collar bolt or the rear derailleur hanger bolt holes and bolts. The barrel adjusters work properly. Frame and Wheel notes the following: the area on the seat post underneath the moveable carbon front derailleur hanger belt shows some wear. There is some wear on the down tube around the water bottle bolts from a water bottle cage. There is some wear on the right and left side of the head tube from brake cables. There are two chips in the finish of 5 x 5 mm in size and some smaller scratches on the outward face of drive side chain stay from the chain. There are five 1 x 2 mm chips on the under side of the drive side chain stay. There is some corrosion on the barrel adjuster screws. The outside face of the rear derailleur hanger shows markings from the quick release nut. The inside and outside faces of the rear and front dropouts show markings from the locknut of the hub and the quick release. The “lawyer tabs” on the front drop outs have been filed away. Frame and Wheel carefully inspected this frame, but cannot guarantee that every imperfection has been spotted. 

Frame and Wheel conclusion

The Parlee Z5 XL Tall is a very light frame set for its size. This frame set, which is a 57 cm using the center to top seat post length as the standard of size, weighs 1.42 kg or 3 pounds 2 ounces (frame, fork and headset components). This is 30% lighter than the BH G5 in a size 57, 8% lighter than the Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL3 in a size 52 and 4% lighter than the Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon in a size 56. The light weight is the result of the tube to tube construction of the frame and the use of carbon in constructing the front derailleur hanger belt, the drop outs, the cable stops and the seat collar. The BB 30 bottom bracket perhaps lowers the weight of the frame too. This frame set will suit the taller rider who wants to upgrade to a very light frame, but who seeks the more comfortable position afforded by this frame’s “tall” head tube. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain a premium boutique carbon frame set at a valuation that will inspire some great rides and generate plenty of envy.

Frame and Wheel is auctioning on eBay a black 2011 Selle San Marco Mantra Carbon FX saddle. The saddle was purchased new in 2010. It was mounted on a road bike and was soon after switched out for a different saddle. It has been in storage and unused ever since. The saddle has had only one previous owner and he is selling it because it was not comfortable for him.  The saddle is in excellent condition with no signs of wear and tear. It is clean, there are no abrasions from a crash, the covering is not faded or discolored from rubbing or the elements, there are no tears or rips in the “microfeel” surface of the saddle, there are no cracks in the rails and the saddle is not loose upon the frame.  Frame and Wheel’s view is that this is a very nice and light road saddle that is as good as new. It will suit the rider who already has a seat post that will accommodate a Selle San Marco saddle, and who is knowledgeable about and comfortable with Selle San Marco saddles. Please note that the rails that sit in the seat post bolt have a rectangular shape rather than a round shape. New 2011 Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL3 size 52 carbon frame set

Frame and Wheel is bringing a new 2011 Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL3 size 52 carbon frame set to market on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. This frame set is a replacement for a 2010 SL2 frame set that the previous owner purchased new from Bike Barn in Whitman, Massachusetts. The 2010 SL2 suffered a cracked bottom bracket and Specialized replaced it with this 2011 SL3 frame through its warranty program. The frame set has been in the possession of the previous owner since July 2010. It has never been built up, it has been stored indoors in its original packaging and it has never been dropped or damaged. The previous owner is selling the frame because he already has a road bike that is built up and operating fine, and he would like to raise some cash to obtain a time trial frame. The frame features a tapered head tube and tapered steer tube (1 1/8” to 1 1/2”) and a carbon braze-on front derailleur hanger. Bottom bracket is English thread, drop outs are alloy and cabling is external. The frameset as shown weighs a total of 1.54 kg or 3 pounds and 5 ounces. The serial number is on the bottom of the bottom bracket and reads: STAI210D0423. The serial number on the front fork reads K4710D0879. The steer tube is uncut. Review of condition

The frame is in excellent condition. It is clean and there are no scratches, blemishes cracks or chips in the finish of the frame. The front and rear forks are in alignment with the centerline of the frame and the rear derailleur hanger is straight. The front derailleur hanger and the cable housing guides are riveted securely. The chain protectors are included and mounted firmly. The barrel adjusters work properly, the bottom bracket threads are not stripped or corroded and the cable guide on the bottom of the bottom bracket is mounted securely. The race on the front fork crown is already mounted. The seat post collar and bolts for the water bottle cage are included. The Cane Creek headset is complete (star nut, top and bottom bearings, top bearing cover, spacers, top cap and bolt). 

Frame and Wheel conclusion

This is an effectively new frame set that will suit the smaller rider who wants to upgrade to one of the latest top end offerings from Specialized without paying the new bike premium. It is very light and it features a white and blue finish that is easier on the eye than some of Specialized’s more startling finishes.
