2011 Neuvation C50 tubular carbon wheelset 700c 20/24 Neuvation hub skewer road
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a Neuvation C50 carbon tubular wheel set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The wheels were purchased new in 2011 from Neuvation. They were glued up and ridden once and then placed in storage. They have had only one owner. The owner is selling the wheel set because it is no longer needed. The wheels feature carbon tubular rims, Neuvation / Abec front and rear hubs, 50 mm rim depth, 21 mm rim width, 20 (F) / 24 (R) spoke count, Neuvation stainless steel skewers and sleek  nude carbon finish. The wheels as shown weigh 3 pounds 8 ounces (1.6 kg). Neuvation brake pads not included (these pads are required). There are 50 images of the wheel set at Frame and Wheel’s Flickr page. Please take a look.
Review of condition
The wheels are in good condition. They are clean and they are ready to ride. The hubs spin smoothly and freely. The spokes are tight and straight. The rims are round and the wheels are true. There is no lateral or vertical variation in the rims when placed in a truing stand. There are no cracks, flexing, flaking or discoloration in the carbon rim or the carbon shell. There are no notches in the free hub body from a cassette. There are no cracks in the hub bodies. There are no cracks in the flanges of the hubs. There is no play in the hubs. There is no corrosion on the spokes or the hubs. The stickers are not peeling off. The skewers are straight and complete. Frame and Wheel notes the following. There is a 1 mm x 15 mm scratch on the rim wall of the front wheel near the specification sticker. There is a 1 mm x 25 mm scratch on the non drive side rim wall of the rear wheel near a Neuvation logo. There is light wear on the braking surfaces of the rim. There is a light layer of glue on the rim.

Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that these Neuvation C50 wheels will make a sensible choice for the road cyclist who seeks a versatile carbon tubular wheel set for racing and training. The wheels are in good condition and effectively new. The deep dish rims and the “skunk works” nude carbon finish will transform the voice of any road bike and deliver an immediate aerodynamic and weight advantage. The new owner will relish the look and feel of these wheels and may end up a tubular native as a result. A fine opportunity to obtain a solid pair of carbon tubular wheels from Neuvation.

Sold: $56  Buyer: USA
Origin8 Speed Pro alloy clincher 700c 20/20 spoke Origin 8 hubs Campy free hub road
Frame and Wheel is auctioning an Origin8 Speed Pro wheel set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The owner won the wheels at a bike race in late 2011. They have never been used. They have been in storage. The owner is selling them because they are not needed. The wheels feature Campagnolo free hub body, Origin8 Speed Pro alloy clincher rims, Origin8 front and rear hubs, 26 mm rim depth, 20 mm rim width, 20 (F) / 20 (R) spoke count, Origin8 stainless steel skewers, distinctive white bladed spokes and light weight. The wheels as shown weigh 3 pounds 6 ounces (1.52 kg).  Origin8 is the house brand of J&B Bicycle Importers. Campagnolo free hub body! Origin8 base tape included. Original box included. There are 30 images of the wheel set at Frame and Wheel’s Flickr page. Please take a look.

Review of condition
The wheels are in excellent condition. They are clean and they are ready to ride. The hubs spin smoothly and freely. The spokes are tight and straight. The rims are round and the wheels are true. There is no lateral or vertical variation in the rims when placed in a truing stand. The braking surfaces of the rims show no wear. There are no cracks in the hub bodies. There is no play in the hubs. There are no cracks in the flanges of the hubs. There is no corrosion on the spokes or on the skewers. The skewers are straight and complete and show no wear. The stickers are not peeling off. Frame and Wheel notes the following. There is a 4 mm x 4 mm finish imperfection on the rim wall of the front wheel. There is a 5 mm x 10 mm finish imperfection on the non drive side braking surface of the rear rim. Frame and Wheel highlights that the hub is designed for the Campagnolo free hub body. J&B Importers does not recommend switching the Campagnolo free hub body for a Shimano / SRAM free hub bod. It will likely shorten the longevity of the hub.

Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this Origin8 Speed Pro wheel set will make a fine choice for the road cyclist who seeks a practical and light pair of alloy clincher wheels for training, and who prefers and is set up for Campagnolo components. The wheels have never been used and they are in excellent condition. The new owner will relish the bladed spokes and appreciate the versatility of these wheels, and may find that they become a primary wheel set. An excellent opportunity to obtain an excellent set of wheels from an organization that knows a thing or two bout the global bicycle wheel market.

Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that these Zipp 404 wheels will make an excellent choice for the road cyclist who seeks a versatile set of tubular wheels for racing and training. Although the hubs and the rims represent Zipp’s previous generation technology, the  wheels are nevertheless in good condition with many hours of racing and training remaining in their carbon rims. These wheels will immediately transform the look, feel and performance of any time trial or road bicycle and can be made to go as fast as their wider and more glamourous Zipp Firecrest cousins. The new owner will relish the fast and smooth ride characteristics of these deep dish wheels and perhaps may never return to clincher rims. An excellent opportunity to obtain an iconic set of Zipp wheels.

These wheels will change the voice of any road bike and will allow the new owner to conveniently experience the speed and the sound of 58 mm aero rims. A great opportunity to obtain some beautiful wheels.

Frame and Wheel is auctioning a 1982 Trek 412 bicycle on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The owner purchased the bicycle new in 1982 and used it recreationally for about two years. The frame set features Ishiwata 022 double butted steel tubing, crafted luggs, Suntour adjustable dropouts, braze-on cable housing guide, water bottle cage mount, chain-stay chain hanger, pannier mounts, brass Trek head tube badge, engraved “Trek” lettering on chain stay and fork crown, Trek Micro-adjust external cup head set and Ishiwata front fork. The bicycle features, Suntour VX-S rear and front derailleur, Suntour shift levers, Sakae Ringo Custom crank set, Dia-Compe 500Q brakes and brake levers, Sakae Ringo handle bars, Sakae Ringo SP-150 pedals, Suntour 6-speed freewheel, Avocet Condor seat, twenty-seven inch Rigida AL 1320 rims with Sunshine hubs, new Continental Ultra Sport tires, and original Trek provenance. The bicycle as sown weighs 23 pounds 7 ounces. The serial number on the bottom bracket reads 016199. The bicycle was restored and made ready to ride by Back Bay Bicycle in Portland, Maine in 2012. Improvements include new cable housing and cables, new handlebar tape, new chain, new tubes and tires and new brake lever hoods. Original instruction booklet and owner receipt included. There are 140 images of the bicycle ant Frame and Wheel’s Flickr Page. Please take a look. Many thanks to Skip Echert at Vintage Trek for providing fine information and catalogs on vintage Trek Bicycles.

Review of condition
The bicycle is in good condition. It is clean and ready to ride. The shifting is precise and complete in all 12 gears. The brakes activate easily and grip well. There is 4 mm of pad remaining on the wear indicators. The wheels are true and round and they spin freely and smoothly. There are no dents or cracks in the rim or the wall of the wheels. The spokes are tight. There is no corrosion on the spokes. The hub flanges are not cracked. The tire treads are fresh and the tubes hold pressure.

There are no dents, bends or bulges that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame. The rear triangle is in alignment with centerline of the frame to within 2.5 millimeters (the width of two pennies). The rear drop outs align properly. The front drop outs align properly. The rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. The front derailleur hanger is clamped-on securely. There are no dents bends or bulges that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the front fork. The steer tube does not show any cracks or bulges. The steer tube threads are not stripped. The crown race is secured firmly. The head set is complete. The bearings turn smoothly and are not corroded. There is no play in the bottom bracket. There is no corrosion in the water bottle cage bolt holes. The handlebars are not bent. There are no rips or abrasions on the seat. The chain does not read 0.75 or 1.0 on the chain wear tool.

Frame and Wheel notes the following. There is a 20 mm x 16 mm flaking in the finish on the non drive side down tube. There is a 12 mm x 3 mm flaking in the finish near to it. There is a 10 mm x 10 mm flaking in the finish on the drive side chain stay near the bottom bracket from wheel rub. There is a 1 mm x 15 mm scratch in the finish on the drive side down tube near the shifter. There is 2 mm x 4 mm scratch in the finish on the non drive side down tube near the water bottle cage mount. There is a 3 mm x 3 mm scratch in the finish on the non drive side down tube near the shifter. There are small scratches in the finish on the back of the right front fork blade. There is a 5 mm x 5 mm bubbling in the finish on the top of the drive side chain stay. There are wrinkles in the Trek sticker on the down tube. There is surface corrosion on the crown race and the external cup set. There is surface corrosion on the front derailleur cage. There is surface corrosion on the front and rear hubs. There is wear on the front and rear drop outs. The leather seat covering on the drive side of the seat is loose. The braking surfaces of the rims show wear. Some of the spokes have bends. There is corrosion around some of the nipples.

Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this Trek 412 will make a fine addition to a vintage Trek bicycle collection. It will also do very well for the smaller rider who is seeks the smooth ride of steel, the compliance of 32 mm tires and the zen of down tube friction shifting. Although the bicycle shows some wear, it is in good condition for a bicycle that is thirty-one years old. The Ice Blue finish and dark blue panel on the seat tube give the bicycle a simple voice that speaks of a time when Trek was a small company, and riding a road bike had fewer clicks, taps and gears and more leather, cotton and steel. The new owner will thoroughly enjoy riding this bike as well as using it as a conversation piece.  A rare opportunity to obtain an American original.
