2005 Shimano WH-7801 tubeless clincher wheel set 700c 16/20 spoke road 10-spd
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a Shimano WH-7801-SL clincher tubeless wheel set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The owner obtained the wheels directly from Shimano for demonstration purposes in 2005. The owner used the wheels for training and occasional racing. They were never crashed. They have been in storage since 2010. The owner is selling the wheels because he no longer uses them. The wheels feature alloy rims that can accommodate tubeless tires and standard clincher tires, Dura-Ace hubs, Shimano skewers, Shimano free hub body, bladed stainless steel spokes, 24 mm deep rims and 16 (F) / 20 (R) spoke count. The wheels as shown weigh 3 pounds 4 ounces (1.7 kg). The serial numbers read HDK08948 (F) and HDK10006 (R). Includes two used Hutchinson tires (Fusion 2 and Fusion 3) and a new Hutchison Fusion 3. Review of condition
The wheels are in good condition. They are clean and they are ready to ride. The hubs spin smoothly and freely. The spokes are tight and straight. The rims are round and the wheels are true. There are no dents or bends in the rims. There are no cracks in the hub shell. There are no cracks in the flanges of the hubs. There is no corrosion on the nipples or on the hubs. The skewers are straight and working properly. The stickers are not peeling off. The valves are not missing. Frame and Wheel notes the following. The braking surfaces show wear. There are notches on the free hub body from a cassette. The Dura-Ace lettering on the rear hub is partially worn away. There are some small scratches on the stickers. The truing stand reveals a variance of less than 1 mm in the front and rear wheel.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that these Shimano WH-7801 wheels will suit the road cyclist who seeks a light set of alloy wheels and who has embraced tubeless tire technology. The wheels are in good condition and they have many hours of racing and training remaining. Although the rims and the hubs are designed specifically for tubeless tires, they can nevertheless be used with traditional clincher tires and tubes. This is a nice feature, but the new owner may be so satisfied with the ride characteristics of tubeless tires that this much noted detail fades in importance. A great opportunity to obtain high performance Shimano wheels at an excellent valuation.
