Frame and Wheel is offering Zipp 808 Firecrest tubular wheels on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The wheels were purchased new in 2012. They were used for demonstration and display purposes. They were glued up and ridden only a few times. They have been in storage. They have had only one owner. The owner is selling them because he no longer uses them. The wheels feature carbon tubular rim, carbon shell, ABLC dimpled rim shell surfaces, Shimano 10-speed free hub, Zipp 88 front hub and Zipp 188 rear hub, 82 mm rim depth, 26 mm rim width, 16 (F) / 20 (R) spoke count, adjustable hubs, Zipp stainless steel skewers, Beyond Black lettering, aero design and Zipp 808 cool. The wheels as shown weigh 3 pounds 8 ounces (1.6 kg). There are 40 images of the wheel set at Frame and Wheel’s Flickr page. Ships in new custom wheel boxes.
Review of condition
The wheels are in very good condition. They are clean and they are ready to ride. The hubs spin smoothly and freely. The spokes are tight and straight. The rims are round and the wheels are true. There is no lateral or vertical variation in the rims when placed in a truing stand. There are no cracks, flexing or flaking in the carbon rim or the carbon shell. There is only one notch in the free hub body splines from a cassette. There are no cracks in the hub bodies. There are no cracks in the flanges of the hubs. There is no corrosion on the spokes, the nipples or on the skewers. The stickers are not peeling off. The skewers are straight and complete. There is no glue no the rims. Frame and Wheel notes that there is light wear on the braking surfaces of rims.
11-speed conversion
The Zipp 188 rear hub can be converted to 11-speed. The conversion requires a new axle, end cap, free hub body and spacer and a re-dish of the wheel. The upgrade is available through authorized Zipp dealers. Please see this link to Zipp website for more information about the conversion.
