Sold: $410  Buyer: United Kingdom
New Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 56cm frame set white road
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a new Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 56 cm frame set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. This frame set is one of eight “sample” Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 framesets. It has been in inventory for one year during which time Frame and Wheel has been working on the development of an eBay distribution channel, the construction of a current and informative website, and the build and test of the frame set as a fully built-up bike. This Austro-Daimler frame set has never been built up and it has always been stored indoors. Please see a review about the fully built up bike at the Frame and Wheel blog and testimonials from the three other owners of this frame set. Please see an image of Frame and Wheel and his Austro-Daimler Superleicht Di2 in action at the Tour of the Battenkill 2012. Please see additional images of the frame set at Frame and Wheel’s Flickr page. There is additional information about the frame set geometry and available sizes at the Frame and Wheel website.
The Privileges Remain the Same
The frame set is being auctioned in order to determine a market driven “price-point” for the other frame sets and future frame sets. Although you are obtaining your frame set on eBay in an auction, you do not in any way forfeit privileges that you would expect from a traditional retailer or a big name bicycle brand. The frame sets are new and Frame and Wheel stands behind them. The only difference is that you are paying a market price for the frame set rather than a pre-determined price. Frame and Wheel offers a fourteen day day money back return policy for all of its eBay transactions, and original owners of Austro-Daimler frame sets are eligible for the Frame and Wheel Credit or Cash program and the Frame and Wheel Clear Your Gear program. Please see the bottom of the description page for more information on both of these programs.
Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 frame set features
The frame set is designed for electronic shifting (Di2). Cable stops are absent and there are openings on the bottom bracket and the down tube for wires and junctions. The frame set features an Austro-Daimler 37SL carbon fork, full internal cabling, pearl white paint finish, tapered head tube, oversized down tube, seat tube and chain stays, asymmetrical top tube, front and rear carbon drop outs, bolt-on front derailleur hanger for the front derailleur, replaceable rear derailleur hanger and English thread 68 mm bottom bracket. The frame set includes full carbon seat post, single bolt adjustable seat clamp, threadless sealed cartridge bearing head set assembly, alloy seat post collar, chain stay plate and “fishing-line” and fittings for Di2 installation. The serial number on the bottom of the bottom bracket reads CG1101003029. The serial number under the crown of the front fork reads CG1101003049. The frame set as shown weighs 1.70 kg or 3 pounds 12 ounces. The frame set is covered by Frame and Wheel’s Credit or Cash warranty program and is eligible for the Frame and Wheel Clear Your Gear program.
Review of condition
The frame set is in excellent condition. It is clean and ready for build. There are no scratches, chips or flaking in the finish of the frame. There are no cracks or bulges that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame or the fork. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the centerline of the frame and the rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. There is no wear on the back side of the seat tube, under the down tube, along the chain stays or under the crown of the front fork. The front derailleur hanger is screwed securely to the seat tube and is undamaged. The steer tube is not cracked or flaking. The front fork has safety tabs. The headset is complete. There is no corrosion in the bottom bracket or in the water bottle bolts. The threads on the bottom bracket are not stripped.
For the build
The frame set is new and should be prepared and built-up by an experienced and skilled mechanic who is also familiar with installing Shimano Di2 components. The use of a drill is required to expand the opening at the top of the bottom bracket for the front derailleur wire. The bottom bracket and rear derailleur hanger threads should be chased and faced. Water bottle bolts and chain stay protector strip is not included. Frame and Wheel will be pleased to send the frame set directly to the independent bicycle dealer of your choice and will incentivize them to work with you. In this way you will be combining the value, convenience and selection of the Internet with the service, support and community of the local bike store.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that the Austro-Daimler Superlecht Carbon Di2 frame set will suit the performance cyclist who seeks to up grade to a stiff and light frame set that is designed explicitly for electronic shifting. It might suit the masters category cyclist who raced an Austro-Daimler Superleicht thirty years ago and seeks to vicariously relive the glory days of his golden youth. It may also suit the younger rider who seeks something competitive and current in terms of technology, but with a classic European voice. Built up with carbon tubular wheels and a Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 group set, the frame set becomes a bicycle that will allow the new owner to achieve these wants and desires and perhaps a few heroic wins or flyers. The new owner for a time will also be one of four riders in the world riding an Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 road bike. Frame and Wheel is very happy to have the company.

Frame and Wheel Credit or Cash Program
Frame and Wheel has observed through its secondary market business that many cyclists tire of their performance carbon frame sets after about three years and replace them with newer or different models. The old frame sets are either sold on eBay, allowed to collect dust in the basement indefinitely or sent to the landfill. Thus, the origination of the Frame and Wheel Credit or Cash program. This program allows the original owner of an Austro-Daimler frame set to return it to Frame and Wheel for what ever reason (crash damage, normal wear and tear, defect, product evolution, upgrade, etc.) in return for a credit towards a new frame set or an outright market driven cash payment. This program is easier to understand and manage than existing warranty and crash replacement programs, it creates value and satisfaction for customers and it does something for sustainability.
Frame and Wheel Clear Your Gear
Please send in your old frame set or any other unused or unwanted cycling equipment to Frame and Wheel Auction Services in the box in which you received your frame set. Frame and Wheel Auction Services will auction your old items on your behalf and forward the proceeds to you net of expenses and a commission (Please see Frame and Wheel Auction Services for more information about commissions). This program defrays the cost of your new frame set and reduces cycling equipment clutter in your home. It also allows for the sustainable use of Frame and Wheel’s fleet of custom made frame set boxes. For domestic customers, shipping is paid by Frame and Wheel and Federal Express will pick up the box from your location. For international customers, contact Frame and Wheel regarding shipping cost and you will be reimbursed through Pay Pal.
If you are not interested in sending gear to be auctioned, that is fine and understood. Frame and Wheel will still be very grateful to have the box back so that frame sets can continue to be delivered to customers around the world. Be sure write your name and home town on the side of the box so we will know where the box has been! If you cannot be bothered to send the box back or you would like to keep the box, that is fine too. Frame and Wheel will invoice you the cost of the box ($60.00) after three weeks and it will be yours!
