006 Parlee Z3C 55cm ML carbon compact frame Reynolds fork Chris King headset nude
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a 2006 Parlee Z3C 55cm ML frame and fork on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame and the fork was purchased new directly from Parlee Cycles in the Spring of 2006 and in the presence of the man himself. It was built up and used primarily for fair weather training and recreation. It has never been crashed and it has always been stored inside finished space and transported inside a car. It was maintained by the owner. The owner is a masters category cyclist and he is selling the bicycle because he is upgrading to a new bike and would like to clear out some of the cycling equipment in his basement. The frame features a Reynolds carbon fork, a Chris King NoThreadSet headset, a Parlee adjustable carbon front front derailleur hanger “belt”, carbon woven lugs, carbon cable stops, titanium rear drop outs, wishbone seat stays and Parlee “Made in the USA” provenance. The frame and fork as shown weighs 3 pounds 7 ounces (1.57 kg). The serial number reads PCZ06C35053. The owner is 5 feet 10 inches with an inseam of about 33 inches. Seat post not included. There are over 80 images of the frame set here.  Please follow Frame and Wheel Auction Services link for more information about the service and other listings.
Review of condition
The frame and fork is in very good condition. It is clean and ready for build. There are no cracks, bulges, flexing or flaking that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame or the fork. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the the centerline of the frame and the rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. It shows only light signs of wear on the back of the seat tube, the bottom of the down tube and inside the chain stays. The carbon cable stops are undamaged and clear of obstructions. The barrel adjusters work properly and are not missing any parts. The headset cartridge bearings move smoothly and quietly and are securely mounted in the cups. The steer tube is not cracked or flaking. The front fork has safety tabs. The race is mounted securely on the front fork and the headset is complete. There is no corrosion in the bottom bracket, on the crown race or in the water bottle bolts. Frame and Wheel notes the following. There is a 2 x 5 mm chip on the underside of the down tube. There are series of blemishes about 2 x 2 mm in size on the top side of the drive side chain stay. There is wear on the seat tube from the front derailleur clamp. There is wear along the edges of the bottom bracket shell. There is wear on the front and rear drop outs. Frame and Wheel notes that the top cover of the head set is very snug on the carbon steer tube.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this is a lightly used and well maintained frame set that still has many hours of training and racing remaining in its carbon fiber tubes and posts. It will make a fine and practical choice for the dedicated cyclist who wants to upgrade to something very light in a compact geometry. The frame is a clean slate and the new owner will have great fun building it up to meet his or her exact specifications and preferences. For example, with a set of carbon tubular wheels and a SRAM Red group set, this Z3C will be among the the lightest bikes on the road and could be a candidate for Parlee’s Facebook Wall. Regardless of the build, the resulting bicycle will have a beautiful and mature voice and will smack of great value, which will be an inspiration to the new owner and a point of pride for Mr. Parlee.
