Frame and Wheel is auctioning a Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL wheel set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The wheels were purchased new at Kennebunkport Bicycle in August 2010. They were used in one race in 2010 and one race in 2011. They were used for some training in 2011. The owner is selling them because she is training with power and would like to upgrade to race wheels that are built up with a power tap hub. The wheels have been in storage for most of 2011. They have never been crashed. They have always been stored indoors and they have had only one owner. The wheels with skewers weigh 4 pounds and 4 ounces (1,930 grams). The serial number on the front wheel reads C90413106 and the serial number on the rear wheel reads C90412961. Free hub body washer included. No tires or instruction manual included. Review of condition

The wheels are in very good condition. They are clean and they are ready to ride. There are no dents, bends or scratches in the alloy rims. There are no cracks, flaking or chips in the carbon shells. The stickers are clean and adhere properly. The axles are not bent. The rims are round and true and the spokes are tight and straight. The bearings are smooth and the wheels spin freely and quietly. The pawls are not excessively loud. There are no notches on the splines of the free hub body. There is no play in the hubs. The rim tape is clean and fresh. Frame and Wheel notes the following: There is a 15 x 40 mm abrasion on the drive-side carbon shell of the rear wheel from a transition zone scramble. There is a 20 mm abrasion on the face of a near-by spoke. The braking surfaces of the rims show some wear. There is light corrosion on some of the spokes. There is corrosion on the inside face of the quick release adjusting nut. There is corrosion on the rear wheel lock nut. Frame and Wheel carefully and in good faith inspected this item but cannot guarantee that every imperfection has been spotted.

Frame and Wheel conclusion

Frame and Wheel’s view is that these are very nice and very practical aerodynamic clincher wheels that will do very well for racing or fair weather training. The wheels are in very good condition: the bearings are silky smooth and the rims rock-solid straight and true, which indicates that these wheels have been hardly used at all. The 12K weave of the carbon shells and their 52 mm depth give the wheels a distinctive aero look and the black and yellow highlights of the Mavic logo is as compelling as ever. The wheels will suit the triathlete and the road cyclist who seek an aero edge without the work and the expense of deep dish carbon tubular wheels. An excellent opportunity to obtain first class wheels at first class valuation.
