Sold: $460 Buyer: United Kingdom
Sold: $500 Buyer: Austria
New Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 53cm frameset white road
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a new Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 53 cm frame set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. This frame set is one of eight “sample” Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 framesets. It has been in inventory for one year during which time Frame and Wheel has been working on the development of an eBay distribution channel, the construction of a current and informative website, and the build and test of the frame set as a fully built-up bike. This 53 cm frame set has never been built up and it has always been stored indoors. Please see a review about the fully built up bike at the Frame and Wheel blog. Please see additional images of the frame set at Frame and Wheel’s Flickr page. There is additional information about the frame set geometry and available sizes at the Frame and Wheel website.
The Privileges Remain the Same
The frame set is being auctioned in order to determine a market driven “price-point” for the other frame sets and future frame sets. Although you are obtaining your frame set on eBay in a no-reserve auction, you do not in any way forfeit privileges that you would expect from a traditional retailer or a big name bicycle brand. The frame sets are new and Frame and Wheel stands behind them. The only difference is that you are paying a market price for the frame set rather than a pre-determined price. Frame and Wheel offers a seven day money back return policy for all of its eBay transactions, and original owners of Austro-Daimler frame sets are eligible for the Frame and Wheel Credit or Cash program and the Frame and Wheel Clear Your Gear program. Please see the bottom of the description page for more information on both of these programs.
Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 frame set features
The frame set is designed for electronic shifting (Di2). Cable stops are absent and there are openings on the bottom bracket and the down tube for wires and junctions. The frame set features full internal cabling, pearl white paint finish, tapered head tube, oversized down tube, seat tube and chain stays, asymmetrical top tube, front and rear carbon drop outs, bolt-on front derailleur hanger for the front derailleur, replaceable rear derailleur hanger and English thread 68 mm bottom bracket. The frame set includes full carbon seat post, single bolt adjustable seat clamp, threadless sealed cartridge bearing head set assembly, alloy seat post collar, chain stay plate and “fishing-line” and fittings for Di2 installation. The serial number on the bottom of the bottom bracket reads CG1101003030. The serial number under the crown of the front fork reads CG1101003037. The frame set as shown weighs 1.70 kg or 3 pounds 12 ounces. The frame set is covered by Frame and Wheel’s Credit or Cash warranty program and is eligible for the Frame and Wheel Clear Your Gear program. Instructions included.
Review of condition
The frame set is in excellent condition. It is clean and ready for build. There are no scratches, chips or flaking in the finish of the frame. There are no cracks or bulges that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame or the fork. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the centerline of the frame and the rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. There is no wear on the back side of the seat tube, under the down tube, along the chain stays or under the crown of the front fork. The front derailleur hanger is screwed securely to the seat tube and is undamaged. The steer tube is not cracked or flaking. The front fork has safety tabs. The crown race is mounted securely on the front fork and the headset is complete. There is no corrosion in the bottom bracket, on the crown race or in the water bottle bolts. The threads on the bottom bracket are not stripped.
For the build
The frame set is new and should be prepared and built-up by an experienced and skilled mechanic who is also familiar with installing Shimano Di2 components. The use of a drill is required to expand the opening at the top of the bottom bracket for the front derailleur cable. The bottom bracket and rear derailleur hanger threads should be chased and faced. Water bottle bolts and chain stay protector strip is not included. Frame and Wheel will be pleased to send the frame set directly to the independent bicycle dealer of your choice and will incentivize them to work with you. In this way you will be combining the value, convenience and selection of the Internet with the service, support and community of the local bike store.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that the Austro-Daimler Superlecht Carbon Di2 frame set will suit the performance cyclist who seeks to up grade to a stiff and light frame set that is designed explicitly for electronic shifting. It might suit the masters category cyclist who raced an Austro-Daimler Superleicht thirty years ago and seeks to vicariously relive the glory of his golden youth. It may also suit the younger rider who seeks something competitive and current in terms of technology, but with a classic European voice. Built up with carbon tubular wheels and a Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 group set, the frame set becomes a bicycle that will allow the new owner to achieve these wants and desires and perhaps a few heroic wins or flyers. The new owner for a time will also be one of two riders in the world riding an Austro-Daimler Superleicht Carbon Di2 road bike. Frame and Wheel is very happy to have some company.

Frame and Wheel Credit or Cash Program
Frame and Wheel has observed through its secondary market business that many cyclists tire of their performance carbon frame sets after about three years and replace them with newer or different models. The old frame sets are either sold on eBay, allowed to collect dust in the basement indefinitely or sent to the landfill. Thus, the origination of the Frame and Wheel Credit or Cash program. This program allows the original owner of an Austro-Daimler frame set to return it to Frame and Wheel for what ever reason (crash damage, normal wear and tear, defect, product evolution, upgrade, etc.) in return for a credit towards a new frame set or an outright market driven cash payment. This program is easier to understand and manage than existing warranty and crash replacement programs, it creates value and satisfaction for customers and it does something for sustainability.
Frame and Wheel Clear Your Gear
Please send your old frame set or any other unused or unwanted cycling equipment to Frame and Wheel Auction Services in the box in which you receive your new Austro-Daimler frame set. Shipping is paid by Frame and Wheel and Federal Express will pick up the box from your location. All you have to do is stick the label on the box and call Federal Express. Frame and Wheel Auction Services will auction your old items on your behalf and forward the proceeds to your Pay Pal account net of listing expenses and a commission (Please see Frame and Wheel Auction Services for more information about commissions). This program defrays the cost of your new Austro-Daimler frame set and reduces cycling equipment clutter in your home. It also allows for the sustainable use of Frame and Wheel’s custom made frame set boxes.

Vintage 1980s Motobecane Super Mirage 59 cm steel frame 27 inch wheel 6/7 speed

Sold: $5.50 Buyer: Japan
Vintage 1980s Motobecane Super Mirage 59 cm steel frame 27 inch wheel 6/7 speed
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a Vintage 1980s Motobecane Super Mirage frame on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame has been languishing the basement of an independent bicycle store for the past few years and is finally being liberated in order to reduce clutter and get the frame to someone who is willing to rebuild it and appreciate it. The frame features 1020 steel tube construction, external cup head set, 126 mm rear drop out spacing, English thread bottom bracket, rear drop out pannier mounts and French provenance. The frame as shown weighs 6 pounds and 7 ounces. The serial number reads 3363981. No front fork or seat post is included. Please see 50 additional images of the frame at Frame and Wheel’s Flickr page. Please see the Frame and Wheel website for more information about the service.
Review of condition
The frame is in fair condition. There is corrosion on the bottom of the down tube and on the bottom of the chain stays. There is corrosion around the bottom bracket and in the drop outs. There are numerous abrasions and scratches on the down tube, seat tube, seat stays, chain stays and head tube. The rear drop outs show wear. Nevertheless, there are no dents, bends, bulges or cracks that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame. The rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. None of the cable stops are missing. There is no corrosion in the bottom bracket and the threads are not stripped. There is no corrosion or pitting in the head set races.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this frame will suit the restoration enthusiast or the dedicated fixed gear bike builder. The frame has been around for some time now, but it has weathered the years well due to its sturdy construction. The new owner will have to obtain a few classic or specialized parts in order to turn this frame back into the sport touring bicycle that it originally was, or the fixed gear bike that it possibly could be. That process will take some time and effort perhaps, but in the end the restored bike will have a distinctive an highly original French voice that the new owner will enjoy and others will admire. Vive la Motobecane!

Sold: $330 Buyer: Mexico
2007 Giant Trinity A1 50 cm Size M carbon alloy time trial frame set red triathlon
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a 2007 Giant Trinity A1 Size M 50 cm time trial frame set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame set was purchased new from Exeter Cycles in Exeter, New Hampshire in 2008. It was raced in a local time trial series until the end of 2010. It was used twice in 2011 and has been in storage. The frame set has never been crashed. The owner is a masters category cyclist and he is selling the frame set because he no longer races frequently enough in time trials to justify hanging onto the frame set. The frame set has always been stored indoors. The frame set features Alliance Technology (aluminum head tube, down tube and chain stays combined with carbon top tube and seat stays with a seat post that is half alloy and half carbon), Alliance Technology formulaOne Composite front fork, aerodynamic down tube, asymmetrical top tube, cut away seat tube, aero seat post, horizontal rear drop outs, internal cabling on the top tube and down tube, double water bottle cage mounts and red on nude carbon finish. The frame set as shown weighs 2.70 kg (6 pounds). The serial number on the bottom of the bottom bracket shell reads GY627922. The serial number on the steer tube reads GL6X4122. Please see 80 additional images of the frame set at Frame and Wheel’s Flickr page. Please see the Frame and Wheel website for more information about the service.
Review of condition
The frame set is in very good condition. It is clean and ready for build. There are no cracks, bulges, flaking or flexing that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame, the fork or the seat post. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the centerline of the frame and the rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. There is no wear on the back of the seat tube or along the chain stays. The cable stops are mounted firmly and free of obstructions. The front derailleur hanger is undamaged and mounted securely. The steer tube is not bent or showing any bulges. The front drop outs are in alignment with each other and the front fork blades are not bent. The front drop outs have safety tabs. The crown race is mounted securely on the front fork. The cartridge bearings move smoothly and the headset is not missing any parts. The head set races are not pitted or corroded. The bottom bracket threads are not stripped or corroded. There is no corrosion in the water bottle bolt holes.
Frame and Wheel notes the following. There is a 1 x 10 mm white scratch on the non drive side of the top tube near the Trinity A1 lettering. There is a 2 x 5 mm chip on the drive side of the top tube. There is wear on the top tube near the intersection with the seat tube from a strap. There are three 2 x 5 mm chips on the non drive side of the seat tube towards the top of the post. There is a 1 mm chip in the finish on the leading edge of the non drive side fork blade. There are three 1 mm chips on the bottom of the down tube from road grit. There is wear around the front and rear brake bolt holes. There is wear on the front and rear drop outs.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this is an excellent time trial frame set that will suit the road cyclist who wants to have a time trial bicycle on hand for a local time trial series or stage races. It will also suit the triathlete enthusiast who seeks to upgrade to something fully aerodynamic and practical. The frame set is in very good condition with many hours of fast riding still remaining in its carbon and alloy tubes. With a set of aero wheels, the built up bicycle will be as fast as its flashier cousins and its voice will inspire the will to suffer against the clock. The new owner will derive satisfaction from building up the bicycle and knowing that excellent value was obtained.

2008 Trek Madone 6.5 WSD 47cm XS frame lower cartridge bearing NOS

Sold: $1,049 Buyer: Thailand
2008 Trek Madone 6.5 WSD 47cm XS frame lower cartridge bearing NOS
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a new old stock 2008 Madone 6.5 WSD 47cm frame on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame is new old stock from an IBD. A customer ordered the frame, made a down payment, but never turned up to have it built. The frame has been in storage since 2008. The frame is being sold because the IBD needs to make room for new inventory. The frame features women’s specific geometry, an oversized and tapered head tube, integrated seat mast, top tube internal cabling, an oversized down tube and a 90 mm press fit bottom bracket shell. The serial number on the frame reads WTU136T023D. The frame and the fork as shown weighs 2 pounds and 2 ounces (1.0 kg). No front fork included. No seat mast cap included. No head set or top cartridge bearing included. No water bottle bolts included. There are many images of the frame set here. Please see the Frame and Wheel website for more information about the service.
Review of condition
The frame is in excellent condition. It is clean and there are no cracks, bulges, flaking or flexing that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the the centerline of the frame and the rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. The bottom of the down tube, the back of the seat tube and the chain stays show no wear. The cable housing guides are riveted securely to the top tube and the down tube. The chain protectors are mounted firmly. There is no wear around the rear brake bolt or on the rear drop outs. There is no corrosion in the water bottle bolts. The lower cartridge bearing turns smoothly. Frame and Wheel notes the following. The Trek badge is not centered properly on the head tube. The top tube cable stop near the seat mast is missing. The cable guide normally mounted on the bottom of the bottom bracket shell is missing.
Frame and Wheel Conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this frame will suit the smaller female cyclist who seeks to upgrade to something very light and is willing to do the extra work necessary to get this frame back on the road. Indeed, the frame is small enough that it could suit a junior female cyclist or even a tall ten year old. Refitting the frame will obviously be a labor of love, but the final result will be a fine example of one of Trek’s top of the line racing bikes in an original and distinctive finish. The new owner will channel the grim determination of Lance Armstrong on this bike and perhaps be inspired to ride a bit further and faster as a result. A great opportunity to obtain a very fine frame at an excellent valuation.

The frame set is in good condition. It is clean and there are no dents, bends or cracks that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame or the fork. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the the centerline of the frame. There is no bubbling in the finish of the frame. There is a 1 x 17 mm abrasion on the inside of the drive side front fork blade. There is a 1 x 50 mm scratch on the seat stay near the intersection with the brake cross bar. The bolt holes for the brakes show wear. There are two 2 x 5 mm light yellow stains about one third of the way  down the top tube. There is no rear derailleur hanger.
Conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this is a perfectly good frame set for the recreational cyclist who seeks to build up something light and sturdy. It could do very well as a single speed or perhaps as a commuter or touring bike. It will benefit from a new bearing set and the new owner will have to obtain a rear derailleur hanger. The final result will be a fine bicycle that produces hours of satisfaction and miles of value.

The front drop outs show wear. The rear drop outs show wear. Frame and Wheel notes that the sizing on this size M frame is different form the 2007 Size M model. Frame and Wheel also points out that the frame requires a four-splined seat post.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this is a very nice and very lightly used track frame set that will make an excellent choice for the cyclist who is just starting out in track cycling. It is durable and sufficiently aerodynamic and it has many hours of pursuit remaining in its alloy and carbon tubes. It could also have a future as a fixed gear bicycle given that the front fork has a bolt hole for a front brake. The new owner will have fun building up this frame into a track thoroughbred and will no doubt be satisfied with the value obtained from this transaction.
