2008 Trek 1.2 58 cm aluminum road 700c frame and Bontrager fork
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a 2008 Trek 1.2 frame and fork on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame set is old inventory from an IBD. It was built up but never ridden. All the parts were switched out in 2009. The frame and the fork have been in storage ever since. The frame set is being sold because the IBD wants to clear out old inventory. The frame features a Bontrager Approved carbon fork, mounts for panniers and pearl white finish. The serial number on the frame reads WTU023C1851C. The serial number on the fork reads 440672. The frame and the fork as shown weighs 4 pounds and 12 ounces (2.2 kg). Includes headset. No seat post or seat collar included. No rear derailleur hanger included. There are many images of the frame set here. Please see the Frame and Wheel website for more information about the service.
Review of condition
The frame set is in good condition. It is clean and there are no dents, bends or cracks that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame or the fork. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the the centerline of the frame. There is no bubbling in the finish of the frame. There is no wear on the underside of the down tube, on the back of the seat tube and on the inside of the chain stays. The cable stops are undamaged and clear of obstructions. The barrel adjusters work properly and are not missing any parts. The steer tube is not bent or showing a bulge. The front drop outs are in alignment with the centerline of the frame. The front fork has safety tabs. The race is mounted securely on the front fork and the headset is complete. The head set bearings are not corroded and the headset races are not pitted or corroded. The bottom bracket threads are not stripped and there is no corrosion. There is no corrosion in the water bottle cage bolt holes and the bolts are included.
Frame and Wheel notes the following. The Trek badge is not centered properly on the head tube. There is a 1 x 30 mm abrasion on the drive side chain stay. There is a 1 x 20 mm and a 1 x 10 mm abrasion on the non drive-side chain stay. One of the bearing cages is not straight and thus one of the ball bearings does not stay in snugly. There is a 1 x 17 mm abrasion on the inside of the drive side front fork blade. There is a 1 x 50 mm scratch on the seat stay near the intersection with the brake cross bar. The bolt holes for the brakes show wear. There are two 2 x 5 mm light yellow stains about one third of the way down the top tube. There is no rear derailleur hanger.
Conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this is a perfectly good frame set for the recreational cyclist who seeks to build up something light and sturdy. It could do very well as a single speed or perhaps as a commuter or touring bike. It will benefit from a new bearing set and the new owner will have to obtain a rear derailleur hanger. The final result will be a fine bicycle that produces hours of satisfaction and miles of value.
