Vintage 1989 Miyata 914 54cm frame fork CrMo steel black Shimano bottom bracket Japan

Sold: $151  Buyer: Singapore
Vintage 1989 Miyata 914 54cm frame fork CrMo steel black Shimano bottom bracket Japan
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a vintage 1989 Miyata 914 frame set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame set was purchased new at Dave’s Bicycle Infirmary in Milton, Massachusetts as a completely built-up stock Miyata 914 bicycle in the early 90s. The bicycle was used recreationally and occasionally until about three years ago, when the owner backed his car into it, bending the rear rim beyond repair. The bicycle has been in storage since then. The owner is the original owner and he is selling the frame set because he needs to clear out the basement of cycling equipment and he does not want to invest any capital in restoring the bicycle. The frame set features Chromoly (Cr-Mo) steel tubes and front fork, spline triple butted tubing, adjustable rear drop outs, internal cabling on the top tube, investment cast lugs, double water bottle cage mounts, down tube boss for a Co2 cartridge cage, down tube shifter bosses, bottom bracket shell cable guides, pump peg on the head tube, seat stay chain hook, Japanese provenance and distinctly late 80s graphics. The frame set as shown weighs 3.2 kg (7 pounds). The serial number on the bottom bracket shell reads QS36935. The serial number on the front fork reads DJ 244 T M 1063. A 1988 Shimano 1051 bottom bracket is included. Seat post not included. All of the frame set’s original components and the front wheel are being auctioned simultaneously on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. There are over 100 images of the frame set at Frame and Wheel Auction Services Please take a look.
Review of condition
The frame set is in good condition. Although it shows wear, it is clean and ready for build. There are no dents, bends or cracks in the frame or the fork. There is no bubbling in the finish. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the the centerline of the frame and the rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. The steer tube is not bent or showing a bulge. The front drop outs are in alignment with the centerline of the frame. All the pieces of the headset are included. The head set bearings are not corroded and run smoothly. The headset races are not pitted or corroded. The steer tube threads are not stripped. The cups are clean and not cracked or corroded. The bottom bracket threads are not stripped and there is no corrosion. The bottom bracket cups are not pitted or corroded. All the parts to the bottom bracket are included. There is no corrosion in the water bottle cage bolt holes and the bolts are included.
Frame and Wheel notes the following. There is a 5 x 5 mm patch of corrosion around the first cable stop on the top tube. There is a 2 x 3 mm patch of corrosion on the top of the top tube lug. There is a 2 x 10 mm abrasion on the side of the non-drive side top tube near the second cable stop. There is a 5 x 5 mm patch of corrosion on the non-drive side down tube in between the “i” and the “y” in Miyata. There are smaller patches of corrosion near the “y” in Miyata.. The sticker for the second “a” in Miyata is peeling. There is a 25 mm scratch on the non drive-side chain stay near the intersection with the bottom bracket. The clear coating on the non drive-side chain stay is flaking. There is a 70 x 20 mm area of scratches on the drive-side chain stay from the chain. There is a mark on the seat tube from the front derailleur clamp. There is wear around the drop outs. The right rear drop out adjustment screw is bent.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this a fine vintage frame set that will make a nice fixed gear bicycle for the urban hipster or an inspiring restoration project for the steel road bike aficionado. It shows signs of wear, but it is in good condition and ready for build. The accenting of fluorescent shapes and lines brings to mind Duran-Duran and MTV, but the statement is subtle and clearly does not affect what is excellent Japanese craftsmanship. The new owner will enjoy restoring this frame set and will relish its classic steel road feel when the work is done. A great opportunity to obtain a very good quality classic steel frame set at an excellent valuation.

Letter from Fred Thomas, President of Frame and Wheel about revised commission, listing and PAAS structure

The cost of excellence
The Year of the Dragon has started with a fire-breathing roar. There is a large and growing order book for the service and domestic and international demand is strong. I am very busy working on arranging and executing auctions of bicycles, frame sets, accessories and components. My commitment to providing the best images, descriptions and service on eBay requires time and diligence, and in order for to maintain this standard of excellence, the commission structure must be revised again. A new commission structure is effective 31 January 2012 and applies to all new business and old business that is not on site at that time. A revised Product Analysis and Service (PAAS) charge is also effective at that time. Thank you again for your business and patience and I look forward to working with you in 2012.
Sincerely,
Fred Thomas
President
Frame and Wheel, Inc.

The revised commission structure
According to the the revised commission structure, Frame and Wheel charges 25% of the final value price for items that sell between one cent and fifty dollars. For items that sell between fifty dollars and one thousand dollars, Frame and Wheel charges 25% of the first fifty dollars plus 20% for the difference between the final value price and the first fifty dollars threshold.
Finally, for items that sell for more than one thousand dollars, Frame and Wheel charges 25% on the first fifty dollars, 20% of the difference between one thousand dollars and fifty dollars, and 15% on the difference between the final value price and the one thousand dollar threshold.
Frame and Wheel’s commission is structured so that the higher the final value price, the lower the commission in percentage terms. Conversely, the lower the final value price, the higher the commission in percentage terms. This means that more proceeds are returned to the seller on larger more valuable items such as frame sets and complete bicycles.

New 2007 Zipp 303 / 404 carbon tubular wheelset 700c 20/24 spoke Zipp 343 NOS

Sold: $1,101 Buyer: Spain
New 2007 Zipp 303 / 404 carbon tubular wheelset 700c 20/24 spoke Zipp 343 NOS
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a new 2007 Zipp 343 wheel set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The wheel set is from an independent bicycle store’s inventory of wheel goods. The wheel set features a Zipp 303 tubular front wheel (44 mm rim depth) and a Zipp 404 tubular rear wheel (58 mm rim depth), a Shimano free hub body, a Zipp 82 front hub and a Zipp 188 rear hub, dimpled rims and 20/24 spoke count. The wheel set as shown weighs 2 pounds 10 ounces (1.17 kg). Original Zipp valve extenders included. Skewers not included.
Review of condition
The wheel set is in excellent condition. It has been in storage or on display since 2007 and it has never been used. The wheels are clean and ready to ride. There are no cracks or flaking in the rims or in the shells. There is no wear on the braking surfaces of the rims. The rims are clean and have never been glued. The wheels are true and round and the spokes are tight and straight. The hubs spin freely and smoothly. The pawls are not loud.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this wheel set will make an excellent set of racing wheels for the triathlete or the road cyclist who seeks to upgrade to carbon rims and is comfortable with the commitment required for running tubular wheels. The wheels are light and strong and aerodynamic and although they use Zipp’s previous generation of hubs and rims, they are just as fast as the current and more glamourous generation. The new owner of these wheels will notice the difference between carbon tubular wheels and alloy clincher wheels immediately and will relish the additional performance. This is an excellent and rare opportunity to obtain new Zipp wheels at a favorable valuation.

2010 Redline Conquest Pro 48cm alloy cyclocross frameset

Sold: $242  Byuer: USA
2010 Redline Conquest Pro 48cm alloy cyclocross frameset
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a 2010 Redline Conquest Pro 48 cm aluminum cyclocross frameset on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame set was purchased new from Excel Sports Boulder in October 2009. It was used primarily for cyclocross training and raced perhaps four times. The frame set has about 73 hours of all weather use on sports fields, trails and meadows during the autumn months. It was crashed numerous times at cyclocross speed. The only damage was a bent rear derailleur hanger, which was replaced. It was maintained at Freeman’s Bicycle Service in Portland, Maine. Frame and Wheel is the original owner and is selling the frame set because Frame and Wheel has upgraded to an Austro-Daimler Superleicht Ubercross Carbon. The frame set has been unused and in storage for the past year. The frame set features a 2010 Redline RCT Carbon 12K weave front fork (which replaced the recalled fork in late 2009), Ritchey Scuzzy Logic headset, top tube and seat stay cable guides, down tube barrel adjuster, rear disc brake mounts, seat post clamp and front brake cable hanger. The serial number on the bottom of the bottom bracket shell reads HH9008-0 ISB90 600027. The serial number on the steer tube of the front fork is illegible. The frameset as shown weighs 2.46 kg (5 pounds 7 ounces). No seat post is included. There are over 150 images of the bicycle at Frame and Wheel Auction Services Please take a look.
Review of condition
The frame set is in good condition. It is clean and ready for build. There are no dents, bends, cracks or bulges that raise concerns about the integrity of the frame or fork. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the centerline of the frame and the rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. The brake posts are not bent. The bottom bracket threads are not stripped. The headset bearings move smoothly and quietly. The head set races are not pitted. The steer tube is not cracked or flaking. The front fork has safety tabs. The race is mounted securely on the front fork and the headset is complete. There is no corrosion in the bottom bracket, the water bottle bolts, or the derailleur hanger. Frame and Wheel notes the following. There are scratches on the drive side chain stay. There are numerous chips in the finish around the rear drop outs. There is a 5 x 8 mm abrasion on the head tube from a brake cable. There is wear on the down tube from the front derailleur clamp. There is wear on the top of the chain stay from the chain. There is some corrosion on the crown of the front fork and in the bottom head set race. There is wear around the front drop outs. Frame and Wheel carefully and in good faith inspected this frame set, but cannot guarantee that every imperfection has been spotted.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that the frame set will suit the cyclist who seeks to build up an entry level cyclocross bicycle or a sturdy commuter bicycle. It is in good condition for a cyclocross frame set that has been used for two years and it still has many hours of use remaining in its aluminum tubes. The carbon front fork upgrade is a compelling feature and makes this offering unique. Built up with a set of wheels and 34 mmm cross tires, and a SRAM or Shimano group set, the frame produces a compelling voice that will inspire the new owner to endure cyclocross racing and training. The new owner will also be inspired by the Redline provenance and the attractive valuation at which the frame set is obtained.
