2008 Colnago C50 58s SRAM Red Easton EC90SL carbon clincher FSA Plasma TWBK road
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a 2008 Colnago C50 on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame set was purchased new at Pista Palace in San Diego in 2009. It was built up and used for recreational riding and for wheel demonstration purposes. The owner put less than 1,000 miles on the frame set. It was never raced. It was never crashed. The bike has had only one owner and has always been stored indoors and professionally maintained. It has not been ridden in 2012. The frame set features sloping geometry, the distinctive “high-power” HP chain stays, biconic top tube and down tube, wishbone shaped seat stay (B-stay), straight blade Carbon 75 front fork, carbon lugs, Italian thread bottom bracket and special order and visually pleasing TWBK finish. The bicycle features new 2012 Easton EC90SL carbon clinchers with Lightweight titanium skewers and new Continental tires, 2010 SRAM Red components, FSA Plasma integrated handle bars and Fizik Arione seat. The serial number on the non drive-side drop out is AC 720. The serial numbers on the front fork drop outs are 7D09 (non drive-side) and C076 (drive-side). The bicycle as shown weighs 15 pounds 7 ounces (7.0 kg). The owner is 6 foot 3 inches with an inseam of 34 inches. No pedals included. Two Elite fiberglass water bottle cages included. Review of condition
The bicycle is very good condition. It is clean and ready to ride. The shifting is precise and complete in all twenty gears. The brakes activate easily and grip well. There is 3 mm of pad remaining on the wear indicators. The wheels are true and round and they spin freely and smoothly. There is no cracking, flaking or flexing in the rim or the wall of the wheels. The spokes are straight and tight. There is no wear on the braking surfaces of the rims. The tires are new and holding pressure. There is no discoloration, bulging, flexing or flaking that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame or the fork. There is no road wear on the bottom of the down tube, the back of the seat tube or on the inside surfaces of the chain stays. The rear triangle is in alignment with centerline of the frame. The rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. The front derailleur hanger is securely riveted to seat tube and undamaged. The steer tube does not show any cracks or bulges. The crown race is secured firmly. The head set is complete and the cartridge bearings turn smoothly. There is no play in the bottom bracket. There is no corrosion in the bolts on the steer tube, the seat post or in the water bottle cage bolt holes. The cable housing is not cracking and the cables are not corroded. The cable stops are riveted on to the frame securely. There is no flaking or discoloration on the handlebars. The chain does not read 0.75 or 1.0 on the chain wear tool. Frame and Wheel notes the following. There is a 10 mm x 5 mm chip in the finish on the underside of the crown. There are small chips near to it. There is a an 8 mm U-shaped scratch on the underside non drive-side chain stay. There are two 0.5 mm size scratches on the head tube. There is wear around the rear and front drop outs. There are grease marks on the handle bar tape and the tape shows wear. The seat shows some wear. There is light wear on the drive side chain stay from a dropped chain. There is no Ernesto Colnago signature on the top tube.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this Colnago C50 will suit the taller and dedicated road cyclist who appreciates the design features of Colnago frame sets, the functionality of SRAM Red components and the smoothness of Easton EC90SL carbon clinchers. The bike is stiff, comfortable and remarkably light for its size. Additionally, the TWBK finish is a special order finish for this frame. The bike has been very lightly used and has many hours of training and racing remaining in its carbon tubes. Given that the C50 is no longer in production, the new owner will be in possession of a modern day classic that will attract the praises of the peleton, grow sweeter with age and produce many hours of riding satisfaction. Ernesto will be pleased to know that this bike has returned to the road.
