2007 Lemond Buenos Aires 51 cm carbon

Sold: $405
2007 Lemond Buenos Aires Carbon 51 cm frameset
Frame and Wheel is bringing a 2007 Lemond Buenos Aires 51 cm carbon road frame set to market on eBay. The frameset was purchased new by Mike Golay (www.mikegolay.com) from Cape Able Bike Shop in Kennebunk, Maine in August 2007. It was used for racing and training through September 2010. The frame set was involved in a minor crash in 2008, but sustained no damage. Mr. Golay is selling the frame set because he has another bike that fits him a little bit better and he wants to concentrate his resources on that bike. This frame set including seat post, front fork and front derailleur weighs 4.75 pounds (2.2 kg). The serial number on the frame is WTU074T030C. Seat post clamp, down tube barrel adjusters and two water bottle cages with bolts are included. There are no wheels or any other components included in this sale. The frameset is sold as is.
Review of condition
The frameset is in very good condition. It is clean and there are no major scratches, cracks or bulges in the finish. Indeed, there is very little sign of wear and tear. There are no scratches underneath the down tube, behind the seat tube or on the chain stay or under the crown of the front fork. The front derailleur is clean, undamaged, complete and functioning properly; the rear derailleur hanger is straight; the bottom bracket bearings are smooth; and there is no corrosion in the bolts or in the saddle clamp. Frame and Wheel notes the following: there is a 5 x 5 mm chip in the finish at the top of the right rear seat stay. The finish around the rear brake bolt hole has chipped away. There is a 5x5 mm chip in the finish at the bottom of the right rear seat stay, just above the drive side drop out. The chain guard at the bottom of the down tube appears to be too big, but it is on firmly. There is a very faint mark at the bottom of the down tube where a k-edge chain catcher was mounted.
Upgrades
Mr. Golay upgraded the front derailleur to Ultegra 6600 from Shimano 105 and the bottom bracket from Shimano 105 to Dura Ace 7900. The bottom bracket is less than one year old.
Frame and Wheel conclusion
This is a very nice carbon fiber road racing frame and it is in very good condition. It is an excellent choice for the aspiring racer who wants to upgrade to a carbon fiber road frame, using an existing wheel set, component group, handle bar and saddle to complete the build. The Ultegra front derailleur and Dura Ace 7900 bottom bracket are features that add extra value and the brand channels the spirit of 1980s cycling.
