Highest bid: $900 Bidder: USA
2004 Parlee Z3 59 XL carbon compact frame set Chris King headset nude road
Frame and Wheel is auctioning a 2004 Parlee Z3 59 XL frame set on the Frame and Wheel eBay Store. The frame set was purchased from Parlee Cycles in 2010. It was built up and used for fair weather club rides. The bicycle was parted out in 2012 and has been in storage. The frame set has never been crashed. It has always been stored indoors. The owner is selling the frame set because he has obtained another Parlee and no longer needs this one. The frame set features Parlee Cycles full carbon front fork, Chris King NoThreadset external cup headset (red finish) and Parlee adjustable carbon front derailleur hanger “belt”. The frame features compact geometry, tall head tube, “wish-bone” seat stays, carbon lugs, titanium bottom bracket and rear drop outs, carbon cable stops, orange lettering on nude carbon finish and original “Made in the USA” Parlee provenance. The frame set as shown weighs 3 pounds 9 ounces (1.6 kg). The serial number reads PCZ04E30039. The owner is 6 feet 3 inches with an inseam of 32 inches. Extra front derailleur hanger belt and expander bolt included. Seat post not included. Please see 100 additional images of the frame set at Frame and Wheel’s Flickr page. Please see the Frame and Wheel website for more information about the service.

Transferable lifetime warranty
Parlee Cycles informed Frame and Wheel that for frame sets of this vintage, the original lifetime warranty can be transfered to the new owner. This requires the frame set to be shipped to Parlee Cycles headquarters in Beverly, Massachusetts, where it will be inspected for any faults. If the frame set passes this inspection, Parlee Cycles will reissue the warranty to the new owner. This costs $250 payable to Parlee Cycles. Frame and Wheel will be very pleased to facilitate this process on behalf of the winner.

Review of condition
The frame set is in very good condition. It is clean and ready for build. There are no cracks, bulges or flexing that raise concerns about the structural integrity of the frame or the fork. The rear drop outs are in alignment with the the centerline of the frame to within 1.0 mm (less than the width of a penny). The rear derailleur hanger is straight and undamaged. There is no road wear on the bottom of the down tube, the inside of the chain stays or the back of the seat tube. The carbon cable stops are undamaged and clear of obstructions. The headset cartridge bearings move smoothly and quietly and are securely mounted in the cups. There are no cracks, bulges, flexing or flaking in the steer tube. The race is mounted securely on the front fork. The headset is complete. The front fork has safety tabs. There is no corrosion in the bottom bracket, on the crown race or in the water bottle bolts.

Frame and Wheel notes the following. There is a 2 mm x 7 mm scratch on the outside face of the right fork blade. There is a 5 mm x 10 mm flaking in the finish on the cable stop on the top of the drive side down tube. There is a 3 mm x 5 mm imperfection in the finish on the end of the non drive-side chain stay. There is a 3 mm x 3 mm abrasion on the inside face of the drive side chain stay from wheel rub. There is a 5 mm x 5 mm abrasion on the underside of the top tube. There is light abrasion on the seat tube from the front derailleur hanger belt. There is light wear on the head tube from cable housing rub. There is wear around the brake mounts. There is wear around the rear drop outs. There is no chain stay protector.

Frame and Wheel conclusion
Frame and Wheel’s view is that this Parlee Z3 will make an excellent choice for the taller road cyclist who wants to upgrade to a light, full carbon, modern day classic frame set. This Z3 is in very good condition and it shows immaterial signs of wear. It is very light for its size and it is a blank slate upon which the new owner can create a masterpiece of cycling form and function. Built up with a Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 group set, Zipp 303 Firecrest tubulars, and 3T bars and stem, the frame set will become a very light and fast road bike with a distinctive voice that speaks clearly of Parlee Cycle’s ability to build some of the finest carbon frame sets on the market today. The bicycle will also become a strong candidate for Parlee Cycle’s Facebook Wall given that the frame set is believed to have had Mr. Parlee as its only other owner. Regardless of the build and the frame set’s unique provenance, this Z3 will attract plenty of complements from cyclists and non-cyclists alike and inspire the new owner to reach new levels of cycling excellence. A rare opportunity to join Peleton Parlee on one of the first Z3 frame sets to leave the factory and roll up the road.
